Tenth Grade Titans

It might have taken them a little while, and a few dominoes had to suspiciously fall their way, but say hello to Norrisville High's newest jocks: agile promising quarterback Randy Cunningham and aggressive linebacker prospect Howard Wienerman. Their impressive physiques seem to defy the possibilities of fitness, or at least that's what Howard's sister said on the school news. That rippling eight-pack will make sure she remembers Randy's name. It'll certainly give everyone plenty to look at during these bros' persistent off-field antics. Though there's one other quirk in their story she didn't cover: while Randy found it easy to pack on the beef, Howard may have... "cheated" a little to keep up with him. That's definitely not gonna catch up with him...

This is the first time I've drawn Randy outside of a crossover context -- both of the other times I've drawn him, in spring 2018 and last summer, have seen some other series involved. This is also my first Howard period; he doesn't strike me the same way Randy does. While I did sculpt him into one of my typical model studs, he feels like the type to take some shortcuts along the way, hence the muscle-gut alt (as well as a version where he decided abs were too hard and kept his midsection chunky).

I love the Norrisville High jock attire almost as much as Casper High's athletic gear, but having to wrestle with drawing Randy's hair tends to keep me away. (The underwear is a reference to the show -- props if you caught that in the image!)

The other big thing here is that I'm still figuring out where I want to go with shading (and whether I can make the process even remotely reasonable). I feel it's a big step to tackle in my progression artistically, but I've never been able to find a style that's manageable and looks good. You'll probably see more experimenting with it in future.
